Nikolaj Coster-Waldau takes us on an adventure across Greenland, and gives us a very personal tour of his adopted country. Meet the locals, get to know the culture, and see how climate change is impacting its breathtaking landscapes.
Nikolaj begins his Greenland journey at Thule, a US Air Force base where he meets American airmen, scientists, and GoT fans. Next stop is Qaanaaq, a town settled by displaced Greenlanders, where he tries raw whale and meets his brother-in-law.
Nikolaj and his brother-in-law head to Kangerlussuaq, where local Kim teaches them how to hunt muskoxen. Next they explore Greenland’s massive ice sheet and its stunning icy blue waters before Nikolaj meets up with his wife for local grub in Rodebay.
It’s Nikolaj’s first time visiting Nukâka’s hometown, so she gives him the grand tour, showing him where she broke a finger and where her childhood crush lived. Then they visit a local orphanage and Nikolaj gets to eat the muskox he hunted.
Nikolaj hilariously struggles to play traditional Inuit games with the locals of Tasiilaq in east Greenland. He also visits an abandoned US WWII airbase and spelunks in an ice cave before heading to the southern part of the island.
It’s a fact—climate change is affecting Greenland. In the south, where Nikolaj has a summer house, the effects are palpable. Jo Scheuer, the UNDP Director of Climate Change, joins him to raise awareness of the issue and how to help.
