A dark, visceral drama and a tale of redemption. Joseph is a broken man who decides to confront his painful past, meeting an unexpected kindred spirit along the way. From director Shane Meadows, with a career-defining performance by Stephen Graham.
Joseph, a painter-decorator and recovering alcoholic in Sheffield, falls into despair when his 9-year-old son leaves for Australia with his ex. He begins to be haunted by memories from his past and decides to travel to Ireland to confront his demons.
After a long journey Joseph arrives in Ballybraigh, Ireland. He has an emotional reunion with an important person from his childhood, and is introduced to a new family.
On his way to come to terms with his past, Joseph revisits a place he has confused and fractured memories of, with tough consequences. There is a spark between Joseph and Dinah, and Dinah is inspired to address some painful memories of her own.
