Jamie's Super Food
Scientists have recently identified five spots around the globe where people are living significantly healthier and longer lives than the rest of us. Each week chef Jamie Oliver will visit two of these countries to uncover their diet secrets.
Jamie is off to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, where he eats with five generations of the same family. Then, he heads to the Greek island of Ikaria, a tiny health hot spot where people are proven to live a decade longer than anywhere in Europe.
Jamie is in the Nicoyan Peninsula in Costa Rica, where he’s invited to a fisherman’s family dinner. Then, in Okinawa, birthplace of Karate, he attends a meal hosted by a senior sensei and discovers that the star of their seafood dish is sweet potato.
Jamie is back in Greece, where he collects wild vegetables and herbs with local cook Tula, and enjoys a healthy hilltop feast. Then, in Okinawa, Jamie joins the locals, including a 93-year-old, for an early morning exercise class.
Jamie spends the day in Greece with 84-year-old Giorgos as he works the land. Then, he rides off to a Costa Rican cattle ranch where he dines on black beans, a super food packed with protein and fibre, that keeps cowboys riding day and night.
In Okinawa, Jamie harvest and eats seaweed, a super food packed with immune system-boosting iron. He heads to the tropical island of Costa Rica to discover how their love of fruit that is packed with Vitamin C could help them live longer.
