When 66 safe deposit boxes are robbed in Brussels, Police Inspector Paul Gerardi discovers that the victims are all members of a mysterious elite organization called Salamander, and their stolen secrets could bring down the entire country.
A robbery at the Bank of Jonkhere results in the theft of 66 safe deposit boxes owned by Belgian society’s elite. The bank and the Attorney General attempt a cover-up but then small-time Brussels detective Paul Gerardi starts his own investigation.
Gerardi’s refusal to believe the official story about the bank robbery results in his suspension by the commissioner. The Bank hopes the cover-up is now under control, but Gerardi discovers a trail that leads to a potential informant.
Paul Gerardi hides out at a monastery, as his wife and daughter are repeatedly intimidated by the employees of procurator-general Persigal. But, Paul’s fortunes change when he discovers a new lead in the case which points him to a senator.
After Gerardi is betrayed by his friend, he finds the net is closing around him. Meanwhile, the members of Salamander receive envelopes with copies of the sensitive material stolen from them; they realize someone wants to destroy their organization.
Sofie runs away from home after realizing the truth about her mother’s affair and goes to the police to speak to her father. However, Gerardi is now in the hands of Persigal, as they persuade him to catch the bank robbers in deepest secrecy.
With the eager help of Karin Rasenberg, Gerardi discovers that her husband saved a member of the Royal family from a grave scandal. He has to seduce Karin further to get more information, which puts his own marriage on the line.
Paul Gerardi suffers a tragic loss at the hands of his enemies. Now, he finds that nothing will stand in the way of his taking revenge on those responsible. He starts by seeking out Rasenberg and Klaus, angrily in search of a confrontation.
Wolfs tells Klaus to send the incriminating material they stole to all 66 owners of the safes. Mysterious circumstances befall these owners, all Beligum’s elite. Meanwhile, Sofie is enrolled at boarding school and meets Wolfs’ granddaughter.
Paul Gerardi continues his research into World War II and discovers that a file for April '44 is missing. Meanwhile, Persigal is set up to be the scapegoat by the Prime Minister's office which is infiltrated by Salamander member Vincent Noel.
Gerardi narrowly escapes yet another attempt on his life. Meanwhile the Public Prosecutor informs Noel that he is planning to resign. He then finds that his office has been searched and needs to tip off Gerardi that his location might be compromised.
After an intense investigation, the origins of the Salamander are revealed, as are the details of what happened to the money. Meanwhile, Wolfs and Gerardi have a confrontation with a gunman that takes an unexpected turn.
Murder in the Matonage
Chief Inspector Paul Gerardi starts an investigation into the murder of political refugee Léon Tchité, who was fleeing Kitangi, a former Belgian colony in Africa. He discovers the murderer is a member of the secret organization known as Salamander.
Unrest in the High Circles
The aftermath of the murder of the fugitive Léon Tchité creates shock waves all the way up to the highest political level at Brussels. The Prime Minister begins to contemplate if it is better to take Paul Gerardi off the case.
The Jackie Lanciers Case
After causing an accident, Chief Inspector Paul Gerardi is put on non-active duty by his superiors. Desperate to regain his position, he makes an appointment with Jackie and receives incriminating evidence against General Bombé.
While Paul Gerardi now has a photograph of the murder committed by General Bombé, he is distressed when he discover that the film is still missing. Meanwhile, Martine has a plan to stop him from finding the location of this crucial piece of evidence.
Diamonds With a Dark Side
Upon closer examination, Chief Inspector Paul Gerardi learns that the diamond he got from Jackie is, in actuality, a blood diamond from Kitangi. Meanwhile, Jackie goes on the run in order to sell her diamonds in Cannes.
The Secrets Come Up
Paul Gerardi has his diamond examined through his friend Kroneberg and it turns out to be a glass replica. Meanwhile, Jamie and Nicola manage to steal the film in which General Bombé is caught committing murder.
The Bomb is Bursting
Paul Gerardi tries to reach Jackie, but discovers that she may have committed suicide. However, Paul has his doubts and wants proof. Kroneberg finds himself in a moral dilemma and contemplates revealing the entire conspiracy.
Sofie and Jamie have a wonderful night on the coast of Northern France. Meanwhile, Paul Gerardi discovers that Jamie is working under orders from the secret society Salamander; he now believes that his daughter has been kidnapped.
Jamie decides to come clean and reveal everything about his past, including his connections to Salamander and the fact that his love for Sofie is sincere. Paul Gerardi is hoping he can get the lost film from him.
